Big Idea ChristianityToday.com made the following devastating announcement last week: "Big Idea Productions, makers of the best-selling VeggieTales video series, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Tuesday, as part of a deal to sell the financially troubled company. Big Idea has agreed to sell its assets—including copyrights to Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber and other VeggieTales characters—to Classic Media LLC, which owns or manages media properties such as "Rocky and Bullwinkle," "Lassie," "The Lone Ranger" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." Despite Big Idea's continued popularity—eight of the top 10 selling videos in the Christian retail market are from Big Idea, including the recently released The Ballad of Little Joe—the company has had cash flow problems in recent years. Last November, following the release of the motion picture Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie, which grossed more than $24 million at the box office, Big Idea laid off 30 employees. Additional layoffs have cut the company's staff from a high of 200 part-and full-time employees to a current staff of 44. "To call the last year difficult is an understatement," said Big Idea founder and CEO Phil Vischer in a statement. "In the midst of VeggieTales' success, we made several key strategic errors that led us to this point. Due to their great enthusiasm for both our business and our ministry, I believe Classic Media is a wonderful partner to help guide Big Idea back to financial health." Kris Fuhr, a spokesperson for Big Idea, said the company intends to continue making VeggieTales videos, with an Easter special due for release next February, followed by videos in May and September. Plans for a second VeggieTales film, announced last fall, are now on hold, Fuhr said. "There are projects that are ready to go," she said, "but they have to have the appropriate business model" before proceeding." delirious Delirious? made this following announcement yesterday... "We know that one thing we can bring is music and so we have! We have a new album that is coming, but first we want people to get hold of some of this music absolutely FREE and that is where maybe you could help. With the computer download culture firmly here, we want people to be able to do this legally as well as get the music out to as many people as possible, because we know what it can do… So from the 1st of October (this Wednesday), we are offering a FREE download of a new song called 'Majesty (Here I Am)' and as the title suggests, it's about one thing - our Creator and what He has done for us. A song we are proud of, a song we believe will have the church singing with us and a song that is meant to bring God all the Glory. With this download (the full and final version), we are offering the 'single' artwork and music tablature as a download too. We will also be doing the same again, with a different song on November 1st. The link to 'Majesty (Here I Am)' is http://delirious.co.uk OR you can make the link direct with MP3 http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/284/delirious1.html We also have wallpaper available to remind people of the free downloads. Have I Got a Story for You!, which opens with a music video cover of the tune “The Girls are Back in Town,” featuring Pierce and tour mate Sandi Patty, is a great highlight of what to expect to see live and in-person, since the two just hit the road together on their fall tour. The tour, named “The Girls are Back in Town Tour,” just kicked off last week and in record time, the tour has been doing phenomenal box office business. Hitting such major markets as Oklahoma City and Chattanooga, both dates sold out weeks in advance of the actual tour stop. Other early markets such as Asheville, Montgomery, Greenville, Bristol, Knoxville and Tulsa, are all close to arena capacity.

They're broken up, they're not, they're broken up, they're not. The most indecisive rock band in Christian music is touring again! Solid State spoke with the band ZAO last week and it looks like the rumours are indeed true, the band is touring again and plan on recording a new record hopefully before the end of the year. Former vocalist Dan Weyandt is no longer in the band and a new vocalist is to be announced shortly. See them while you can!

On October 21st the latest Solid State Records compilation will be in stores. What can you expect? A 2-disc collection; one a cd with a dozen songs by The Agony Scene, Stretch Arm Strong, Beloved and more. The other disc is a DVD with EVERY Solid State video ever done as well as bonus live footage of ZAO, Norma Jean, Living Sacrifice and more. That's a disc with a dozen songs and a DVD with nearly 20 videos, all for under $10!

Those in Europe having a tough time finding The Agony Scene record have reason to rejoice. The metal titan Century Media will be releasing the record in Europe on September 29th. Not a lot different than the Solid State release other than the CM logo on the back but the record collector fans here in America can get the European version by going to http://www.amazon.co.uk

SCC Nothing rings in the holidays like Christmas music, and this year, Hallmark will feature the music of Steven Curtis Chapman on its traditional holiday CD. Chapman, a Grammy Award-winning artist, brings his messages of hope and love to the holidays with Christmas Is All in the Heart, featuring original and traditional Christmas songs newly recorded for Hallmark. The CD will be available exclusively at Hallmark Gold Crown® stores, starting in November. “Music plays such a big part in my family’s Christmas traditions and memories,” Chapman said. “Just hearing the first few notes of a song puts me in the holiday mood. I’m excited to share some of my favorite Christmas songs with everyone who shares the joy of celebrating this special season.” Christmas Is All in the Heart will be available exclusively at the nationwide network of Hallmark Gold Crown stores for $7.95. The CD includes new recordings of three original songs from Chapman: “This Baby,” “Going Home for Christmas,” and “Christmas Is All in the Heart.” It also features Chapman’s renditions of traditional holiday tunes, such as “Silver Bells,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Winter Wonderland,” “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear,” and “O Come All Ye Faithful.” Also, the Chapman family will be featured on the Hallmark Channel’s original series “Adoption” in an episode airing Sunday, Nov. 2, (11 p.m. ET / 10 p.m. CT). The program tells the story of how the Chapmans adopted a second child from China earlier this year.

Bleach It’s been just over a year since Bleach's last full album release of Again for the First Time. But within that brief amount of time the boys of Bleach have transformed through a new sound, a life-altering loss, and brand new hope for the future. Now they are back, with the highly anticipated follow-up to Again for the First Time quickly approaching its release. The new Bleach album, Astronomy hits shelves October 21st and is a release unlike any other. Going in to the studio, the band had few lyrics written for their project, yet were inspired after praying about what direction the album should take. Though they were still unsure about the results of the album (they had gone in seeking a light-hearted take on the joys of Christian living, but came out with a much darker result), the meaning of it began taking a divine face after the news that Josh Byers, brother to band members Milam and Jared Byers, had been killed in action while in service in Iraq. Suddenly, the record meant to give hope to others was becoming the source of hope for the band members themselves, with the lyrics finally coming to life, providing comfort to them in their time of grieving. It seemed that every lyric suddenly had a meaning, a message to the writers themselves, as it was clarified to be God’s intention. As they still seek to return their lives to some sense of normalcy, the members have regrouped after a short break to join Five Iron Frenzy on their nationwide farewell tour. Dates follow below. For now, to get a sneak peak at the album, check out their brand new mp3 of "Get Up" from Astronomy. http://www.mp3.com/bleachrock

The DJ said, 'YOU people are CRAZY! We've barely just received this song today and it's ALREADY #2 on the countdown!' On Friday, "Will You" went to #1! Congratulations guys! The quartet's new record Payable On Death streets November 4th.

JoC Jars of Clay and Caedmon’s Call will team up again for the fall leg of what has been dubbed, “The Thinking Man’s Pop Tour.” The successful first leg of the tour last spring visited more than 40 college markets, with multiple sell-out dates. This fall, 30 new college markets will host the tour which launches Oct. 30 in Grapevine, TX (A full list of tour dates follows). Special guest Steven Delopoulos, formerly of Burlap To Cashmere, will open for the bands. Each evening’s concert will feature the trademark organic Caedmon’s Call sound, Jars of Clay’s unique, award-winning musical style and the raw, edgy performance Delopoulos is well known for. Most shows will be on or near major college campuses. Jars of Clay is set to release its new studio recording, Who We Are Instead on Nov. 4, and will debut the new songs on the tour, including the album’s first single “Show You Love.” Lead singer, Dan Haseltine commented, “There’s nothing more exciting than playing new songs in the live setting. We feel like this collection of songs was inspired by the fun we had during the acoustic performances of the past year, and we know this tour will prove to be our best. We can't wait to share the stage with our friends, Caedmon’s Call, and are humbled by the presence of Steven Delopoulos with his gifted songwriting and passionate performance.”

Audio A Audio Adrenaline-founded label Flicker Records has announced the launch of Big House Kids, a record label which will specialize in the creation of children’s products that communicate the love of Christ and Biblical values through fun, engaging mediums such as music, video, interactive games and live tours. Flicker Records general manager Troy Vest will serve as the head of the new label, overseeing A&R, marketing and operational functions. All of the label’s products will be distributed to retail exclusively though Chordant Distribution Group and EMI Music Marketing. “At first glance, it might seem a little odd that a company that’s known for its rock artists would be interested in creating a children’s label,” said Bob Herdman, president and co-founder of Flicker Records & former founding member of Audio A. The label is home to such aggressive rock artists as Pillar, Everyday Sunday, Stereo Motion and T-Bone. “The fact is, we all either have our own kids or are really involved in the lives of our families. As we shared some common parenting experiences, we realized that there’s a definite void in the marketplace for high-quality ‘edu-tainment’ for kids. I’m convinced that we have projects that will rival anything in the marketplace in terms of quality and relevance to children.”

Great news from Uprok Records... Forbes Magazine recently published a feature about Uprok Records and KJ-52. Coming off its successful Summer Jam Tour, GRAMMY nominated group NewSong hit the road this fall on the More Life tour featuring specials guests Todd Agnew and Kelly Minter. The 16 date tour launched on Sept. 14 in Greenwood, S.C. and wraps up in Midland, Mich., Nov. 17. “We are thrilled to be back on the road bringing new music to our fans,” noted Michael O’Brien, NewSong member. “Some days we have no clue what city or state we are in and we miss our families, but touring is so worth it when we are seeing God radically change people’s lives through our music.” Chris Fox, Greenwood, S.C. promoter noted, “The More Life tour proved to be a great show for us in Greenwood. The quality of this tour will be the catalyst that brings more artists to our city in terms of outreach and musical ministry. Additionally, all three artists were very genuine and faithful to their call - you can see it in their presence on stage - their focus is completely on the Lord.” Also, NewSong claimed the No. 10 position on Billboard’s Contemporary Christian SoundScan chart last week with their 15th album More Life, which released Sept. 9. The album more than tripled first-week scans of its previous studio album, Sheltering Tree, released in 2000. More Life was No. 2 on the Top Christian Albums charts and the band’s highest debut for first week sales in its career. “This album has taken more time to record than any other in our history and we believe the result is one of our best projects ever,” commented Eddie Carswell co-founder of NewSong. “We’re thrilled to see such a positive reception from listeners.”

Two years after the original Apt.core project, Rhythms of Remembrance, released, Rocketown Records and producer Will Hunt are partnering for a second CD, appropriately titled 2. According to Hunt, apt.core is best described as electronic/eclectic. An experience awash in futuristic soundscapes and global voices, 2 gives listeners a taste of the width and breadth of God’s community on earth. “The name ‘apt.core’ is derived from the belief that our soul, the core of our being, is made sufficient, or whole, through our relationship with Christ,” explains Hunt. “I want apt.core to be a unique experience for every listener. My hope is that the record would stir up a desire in each individual to explore God’s creation themselves and support all forms of creativity in other people.” 2 hits stores Tuesday, October 21st.

SCC Sparrow Records’ Steven Curtis Chapman will release his second DVD, Steven Curtis Chapman Live, on October 21, 2003. This first-ever live DVD will feature performances from this touring pioneer, was filmed from the hugely successful “Live Out Loud Tour,” a tour experienced by over 200,000 people. Steven Curtis Chapman Live, marketed for both the fans who caught the “Live Out Loud Tour” as well as those who were not able to see the show in their area, amasses live performances of career favorites as well as hits from his 2001 Gold-certified Declaration and his current release, All About Love. Live also encompasses the energy and passion of behind the scenes footage of the Tour, including never-before seen b-roll of Chapman backstage and everyone on his tour, as well as the poignant “Beyond The Gates of Splendor” segment. The “Beyond The Gates Of Splendor” portion, by far the highest impact moment of the tour, is featured within the DVD via a 20-minute multimedia presentation. Narrated by Chapman, he shares the powerful and true account of the 1950’s lasting legacy of the American missionaries in Ecuador and the journey of forgiveness between missionary Steve Saint and tribal member, Mincaye, the killer of Saint’s father, Nate Saint. Steve Saint and Mincaye were special guests at each date of the Live Out Loud Tour. This sounds like a DVD fans will not want to miss...

toby With the words of Martin Luther King, Jr. resonating in their hearts, two of the most influential voices of Christian music, Gospo Centric Records recording artist Kirk Franklin and ForeFront Records recording artist tobyMac, are teaming up with the E.R.A.C.E. Foundation (Eliminating Racism and Creating Equality) to break down the walls of discrimination and racism. The two award-winning artists will embark on "I Have a Dream…the Tour," which will visit 15+ major markets this fall. Franklin and tobyMac have long shared the vision of creating music that transcends all racial barriers, and both have been forerunners in the call for unity between people of all races. "I Have a Dream…the Tour" and the tour's partnership with the E.R.A.C.E. Foundation, is the culmination of that shared vision. "tobyMac and I are both very uncomfortable with the color barrier that exists between Christians. It's almost an oxymoron to be Christian yet separated by race," comments Franklin. "We want this tour to be a seed-planter. God willing, it will be the beginning of something greater." "Each time Kirk and I did a Billy Graham Crusade together it became more and more clear that we shared a common vision," says tobyMac. "Our desire is to bring people together, no matter what their color or economic position and point them to God." For dates, visit www.tobymac.com!

The Onstage Web site can only be accessed with the Think About That CD in the computer’s disc drive. “The purity, power and tone of George’s voice will hit many as a new sound in Christian music,” said Rocketown Records President Don Donahue, “Couple his vocal gift with what we always look for at Rocketown—the entire artist package of singer, player, writer and communicator—and we feel like we have a major new artist story going into the new year. Onstage exemplifies all of those gifts while also giving consumers one more reason to buy Think About That.” Check it out December 2nd.

SCC Steven Curtis Chapman will participate at the Congressional Angels In Adoption Awards Banquet, an annual event bringing Congress and other public leaders together to celebrate the blessings of adoption. This year’s event will be held in Washington, D.C. on September 30th at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. Chapman is no stranger to the annual gala, and this year is set to perform for the attendees along with celebrating this year’s national award recipients - Bruce Willis and Muhammad and Lonnie Ali. This yearly banquet is an event declaring the most Congressional support of any child welfare event in the nation, while also being the only program allowing over 150 Members of Congress to select a citizen of their choice as an “Angel In Adoption” award recipient, as well as recognize the “National Angel In Adoption” honorees. Also performing at the event is ForeFront Records recording artist, Geoff Moore. Close friends to the Chapman family, Moore and his wife, Jan, also have two adopted daughters from China, Anna Grace and the recently adopted Ashley Rose. Following the adoption of Anna Grace, Moore was moved to record “Swept Away,” a song he had written for his current project, A Beautiful Sound, in her honor. Moore will be performing that song at the upcoming banquet, as well as perform a song with Steven.

Pillar Got an update on the new Pillar EP! On November 18, 2003, Pillar will be releasing the Broken Down EP. This EP is specifically for all our fans who have been a constant encouragement to us. Fireproof was originally released in May 2002 (Flicker) and then re-released June 2003 (Geffen). Since the wait for the next full length Pillar album has been lengthy they thought they would give fans something to help pass the time. The Broken Down EP will feature an all new Pillar song. This is the first song written and recorded with new drummer Lester. If you thought the songs on the Fireproof album were good and hard rocking wait until you hear this song. The band is in the studio right now finishing this song up. They haven’t even decided upon a name for it yet. The EP also features an in-studio acoustic recording of "Further" with guest Tyler Burkum of Audio Adrenaline on guitar. They might even bring in a quartet just for fun. In September, Pillar will be performing a live acoustic set in Tulsa, OK. During that live event the band will be recording the acoustic performances of "Fireproof", "A Shame", "Light at my Feet", "Further", and maybe even "Father" (they are thinking about it). The live acoustic songs on the EP will be recorded in surround sound. During that live acoustic performance Pillar will also be filming a music video for the acoustic version of "Further". This event will be open to all Pillar fans. It will happen September 17 in Tulsa, OK. The band is also talking the record company into making the EP enhanced (computer friendly). The computer accessible section will include the "Further" Video, a huge live picture gallery, and commentary from Rob about the meaning of each song on the EP. The Pillar Broken Down EP will be available wherever music is sold for around $7.99.

Mark Schultz Word recording artist Mark Schultz will prove why he has become one of the premier Christian music artist songwriters when he releases his third project, Stories and Songs, on October 14. After freshman and sophomore albums which have sold nearly 500,000 units and produced mega radio hits such as “I Am The Way,” “Back in His Arms Again,” “I Have Been There,” “Remember Me” and “He's My Son,” (also a top 20 hit at mainstream radio), Schultz’ new collection of songs is his most personal and mature to date. “Mark has already experienced tremendous success for an artist at this point in his career, but after hearing the music that he’s created for Stories and Songs, I believe this is the album that could propel this singer songwriter to the highest level imaginable,” said Barry Landis, president of Word Label Group. “I’m really excited about Stories and Songs. It’s the most personal record I’ve made; my first two records were all about experiences, but Stories and Songs is more about relationships,” said Schultz. “I think that many people will be able to relate to the emotions on the record and the core message that while it’s nice to have approval from family and friends, we need to ultimately learn that God’s validation is all we really need to find joy in life. I hope that this album will be a challenge and encouragement in that lesson for all those who listen.”

Outspoken conservative comedian, Brad Stine, was joined onstage at the Promise Keepers event in Atlanta this past weekend by Alabama Chief Justice, Roy Moore. Moore has been in the national headlines lately because of his position on moving the Ten Commandments monument from the Alabama judicial building. Reclaiming the culture and servant leadership were constant themes throughout the two-day conference. Brad Stine told the 13,000 men attending the sessions in downtown Atlanta that the culture wasn’t going to change simply because Christians talked about Jesus. “The culture is going to change when we are Jesus,” proclaimed Stine. Stine’s in your face and politically incorrect style makes him a favorite speaker at each conference, according to a recent statement from a Promise Keepers press release. Stine is greeted with thunderous applause and standing ovations from the Promise Keepers attendees as he performs selections from his new DVD, Put A Helmet On!

FiF Here's a letter issued from Five Iron Frenzy's home label 5 Minute Walk Records on their upcoming farewell tour...
Dear Friends of Five Iron,
We are now less than one week away from the Winners Never Quit farewell tour. It is hard to believe that after 8 years of touring FIF only has 59 shows left...They are really excited to say good bye to all of you guys, so we hope you can make it out. The tickets are selling fast so you should get them soon. They are available for all shows at www.itickets.com Most shows will also have them at the door, but they will be a bit more expensive.
I want to let you know about 3 things that we are planning for the tour that we would like you to participate in.
1. We are going to hook up with Rohi ministries in Kenya, Africa to build a home for street kids. We will be asking each person at the shows to consider donating $1 to the "Five Iron Frenzy rescue center" that we are going to build there after the tour. The goal is to house 100 kids that currently live on the street and eat from the trash. We are really excited to be able to help the kids and want you to participate with us. It is awesome to think how much we can help if everyone will give a dollar...
2. We are going to be recording the final show in Denver on 11/22/03. The cd is going to be called The End Is Here. We will be taking photos from the stage each night of the tour to include in the artwork, so bring a big smile. We will have more info on how you can get a copy of the final show in later emails.
3. I wanted to give the band something special to remember their career, so I came up with the idea of a fan-based scrapbook. I would like to invite each of you to participate by either writing a letter, drawing a picture, maybe a poem??? anything you would want to give to the band as a thank you. The only rule is that it must be on a standard size piece of paper so that it will fit into a 3 ring binder. Please bring your letters to the merch table at the shows and put them in the binder that will be there. This will be a great way to say thank you to a really amazing group of people and one that they can keep forever.
In closing I want to again thank you for all your support over these last 8 years and encourage you to come out and see the band one last time. They will be hanging out both before and after the shows so they can say good-bye to everyone...This really is their last tour, so please don’t miss it.
For tickets, directions, times and cities go to www.itickets.com and click on the winners never quit icon on the left hand side.
God bless,
Frank Tate

SCC Steven Curtis Chapman will become DJ for a day when he visits Tulsa’s KXOJ and the K-LOVE Network this month for “A Day Of Hope Share-A-Thons.” Chapman’s wife Mary Beth will join him at K-LOVE in Sacramento. Both of these Share-A-Thons will raise funds to support Shaohannah’s Hope, the adoption foundation founded by the Chapmans and named after their first adopted daughter, now 3 years old and big sister to the new Chapman member, 9-month old Stevey Joy. “I can’t thank KXOJ and K-LOVE enough for catching this vision and offering the use of their platform for this purpose,” comments Chapman. “They are taking important station time, resources and energy to make this happen and to me, it’s why God gives us Christian radio and these types of mediums. I’ve always believed one of the reasons I do music is because first and foremost, it’s a means to make Christ known and to talk about things I feel strongly about. These stations are giving me a tremendous opportunity to share about the need of orphans around the world and our opportunity to make a difference. I’m excited and hopeful that this can continue, that with these two stations stepping out to take the lead, more will come.”
