NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Independent Christian artists are accustomed to working alone, making creative and business decisions on their own with limited budgets and resources, but Dave Pettigrew has grown a devoted community of fans not only through his music’s powerful message, soaring vocals and intelligent, theologically-rich writing but also his engaging, innovative approach.

Pettigrew, an award-winning artist and founder of the There is Hope Movement, invites fans to participate in an 11-day album experience called The Faith and Gasoline Journey.

“This is not a typical album release. This is an experience like no other,” said Pettigrew.

Over the course of The Faith and Gasoline Journey, fans receive a daily email with one new song and a devotional based on that song. Included in each day’s journey is a short story by Pettigrew, behind-the-scenes photos, music videos, lyrics, handwritten lyrics and more.

By the end of the journey, fans receive the entire album for free in a hi-res digital format. Along with the album, fans also receive the entire 41-page devotional ebook based on the album.

This release is based not only on the new music but also the devotionals that surround the album. Pettigrew said he wanted to make this album release “as different and non-traditional in every way possible.”

A traditional album release typically consists of alerting fans about an upcoming album, releasing singles and their videos up front before launching the full album. Pettigrew said he wanted to get his latest music into the fans’ hands and let them digest it in a new way.

In addition to inviting fans on The Faith and Gasoline Journey, Pettigrew is launching singles every six weeks to all digital platforms.

Fans’ reactions to the journey have surprised Pettigrew. Fans are hearing about his nephew’s accidental overdose death last year and have joined in praying for Pettigrew’s family and reacted that The Faith and Gasoline Journey has given them hope and encouragement for themselves and loved ones struggling with substance abuse disorder and mental illness.

One fan recently wrote back, “Wow! I just finished the final devotional and have to say, it was an amazing journey. I loved every minute of it. Thank you.”

She continued, “I forwarded it every day to my friend, Martha, whose son has addiction and anger issues and is now in rehab. He’s still making bad choices, and it seems like he'll never get out, but I pray that Faith and Gasoline album and your devotional will bring Martha some hope, some light at the end of the tunnel. The album came out fantastic and was definitely worth the wait.”

Another fan shared his encouragement, “Many thanks for taking me on your journey. I’ve been truly blessed throughout the journey. I have loved each and every one of them! Thank you so much.”

“As an indie artist, building relationships and community has been rewarding,” Pettigrew said, who also hosts a live Monday night worship service at DaveOnFacebook.com.

Through the livestreamed worship services and at each show, Pettigrew has been able to build a community of like-minded believers who worship and pray together.

“We do all we do for these connections,” said Pettigrew. “These connections let people see my heart for worship and for ministry, and in turn I get to see their heart, hear their stories. These connections have lasted for years with people coming back to shows and giving updates, prayer reports and praise reports. They know my story and I know theirs. That's what makes this so special. That's what makes this worth doing. We're here to serve, to minister to our fans.

Pettigrew said, “We're only trying to draw people closer to God through the music and the message of the There is Hope Movement. And as an indie artist, I'm free to do whatever I want, free to launch an album any way I see fit, free to engage with people in new and interesting ways.”

“It's not me and them; it's us together,” Pettigrew said. “We walk together. We share the music together, and we grow in our journey with Jesus together.”

The Faith and Gasoline album is also available physically from davepettigrew.net or sign up for the journey at The Faith and Gasoline Journey.
