Brentwood & Spring Hill, Tenn. - African Leadership Inc, a local non-profit organization based in Brentwood, TN has announced guest speaker Sally Lloyd-Jones and music guest Ashley Cleveland will highlight the evening for the third annual Spread the Word Bible Banquet. The night will be hosted by Thompson Station Church on April 7, 2016.
Founded in 2013 by realtor and local volunteer, John Murphy, Spread the Word has been able to help African Leadership provide over 9,000 Bibles across 3 countries in Africa. "A Bible in the hands of a pastor is about more than just accomplishing a task," says Murphy. "While in Malawi, I saw first-hand the difference a Bible makes in a community - particularly for the children. It seemed that where there was a church or an active pastor, there seemed to be also schools and more care for the children. No, it's not a statistic. It's something I saw with my own eyes."
Sally Lloyd-Jones has also seen the same impact a Bible makes in African communities. The author of the Gold Book Award winning The Jesus Storybook Bible, which has sold over 2 million copies, will share her experience of watching communities change when they have a Bible in their own language. The event will combine the storytelling of Lloyd-Jones with songs from Grammy Award winning Ashley Cleveland.
"We are very excited to have these ladies (Lloyd-Jones and Cleveland) joining us for this year's event," Adds Murphy. "Their support means a lot and everyone attending will be blown away when they hear them share about the impact a Bible can make."
Through African Leadership, Bibles are distributed to new students entering the Common Ground Academy, a two-year, seminary-like education available in 15 countries across Africa. In addition, Spread the Word has offered graduates of the Academy a case of local language Bibles for use in their church or community. Altogether, more than 5,000 student pastors are currently enrolled in the Common Ground Academy across the continent.
