Why Doesn't JFH Review R-Rated Movies?

So why are no rated R rated movies reviewed?

We often get emails asking why movies like Saving Private Ryan, Hacksaw Ridge, or whatever recent rated R feature film, aren't reviewed. For us, the answer is simple, because we have several reasons.

The number one reason for no R-Rated film reviews is because some of us refuse to see them by our own personal choice and convictions and feel that, due to the content of those movies and the nature of this site, we have no business seeing them and the reviews have no business being here. We feel a movie is usually rated R ("Restricted") for a pretty good reason (which personally researching the movie always proves), and we have decided to draw a line there. We try to pick our movies wisely (with failure at times), but have decided to review nothing higher then PG-13.

We would like you to know we do not condemn those who do see them in any way; it's just our personal conviction. But we do not want to ever promote those films in any way, either, however.

A great tool for reviewing semi-edited R-rated films, however, is a service called VidAngel. You can find out more about this service at www.vidangel.com

**In February 2004, we made the decision to see and review one R-rated film. That film is Mel Gibson's The Passion Of The Christ. The film is rated R because its portrayal of the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus is done in a realistic and graphic way to really show people just how much He really suffered for us. We feel this is one of the only truly justifiable portrayals of graphic violence on film, and one of the only R-rated movies ever worth viewing. As Christians, we feel we should know and see what Christ went through for us. Thanks to Gibson's Passion, we now can get a more accurate idea. As far as we're concerned, we will continue to only review films below an R rating once again, with this film as our only exception.

**In November, 2008, we made the decision to see and review one more R-rated film - the controversially rated Christian-made horror film, House, after much consideration. We intend for this to be informative for parents wondering about this "faith-based" thriller. We still intend to not review other R-rated films beyond this one, considering it to be another exception to the rule.

Disclaimer: All reviews are based solely on the opinions of the reviewer. Most reviews are rated on how the reviewer enjoyed the film overall, not exclusively on content. However, if the content really affects the reviewer's opinion and experience of the film, it will definitely affect the reviewer's overall rating.
