04. Hold Onto Me

Article One
by Article One

Believe me my friend of many years
Of late I've been crying many tears
Do my sad eyes give it all away?

Believe me my friend I'm feeling low
If anyone I thought that you should know
So can I stay, just a little more?

Hold onto me, like I hold on to you
Or maybe it's the other way around
And either way, I'll stay next to you

I've heard there's a man who walked on waves
He lifted the dead up from there graves
How can it be? I don't know

He lived all his life for you and I
Right until the day that he died
And I'm still free to choose my love

Hold onto me, like I hold on to you
Or maybe it's the other way around
And either way, I'll stay next to you

Behind the Song:
"Hold Onto Me was inspired by the "Footprints" poem. My grandpa always carried this poem around with him in his wallet. No one's ever told me why he carried it, and honestly, I don't know if any of my relatives know. The answer might be simple, and he might have just liked it. However, part of me really believes that he found strength in the poem's imagery which pictures God carrying a person through their tough times in life. The last ten years of my grandpa's life were plagued with many medical problems and numerous trips to the hospital as he fought with emphysema, and I know for a fact, that it must have been very difficult to keep going as long he did. In comparison, I've never gone through anything, but when things have been tough, I've caught myself thinking that God's stepped back and left me alone, when in fact, I really believe that these tougher moments bring us closer to God and teach us that He's the one carrying us through. If you've never read the "Footprints" poem, I encourage you to look it up and read it because I believe you'll get a better idea of where I was coming from when I wrote this song. The message and the music, are both very simple and it's one of my favorites." - Nathan Piché (Article One)
