Music with a mission of hope - that's the goal of indie artist TLisa (short for Terri-Lisa). With her latest release, God of Love, she's providing listeners with not only a taste of her music, but a full serving. The album opens with the title track "God of Love," it features beautiful piano and lyrics that clearly explains why God is so good. That clear message can be heard through each track. Those clear, straightforward lyrics are prominent in every song. If you read the title of each song, it's exactly what it will be about. While some listeners may not be bothered by this, it seems to keep the album from being more artful. Songs like, "My Reward" and "No Other Hope" are beautiful congregational songs that could be sung at any church service. However, songs like "Breathing" and "God Answers Prayer" don't necessarily hit the mark as the music and vocals don't feel to be in-sync - rhythmically or melodically. The album concludes with the simplistic "You Love Me," and it is arguably the best track on the album. It's a genuine reflective ballad of God's love for his people and TLisa's vocals really shine through. Truth be told, it's a very sincere project but could use some fine-tuning. The songwriting is straightforward and the music isn't anything beyond the norm. Her sound is reminiscent of 80's acts like Tiffany or Deleon Richards. For listeners who may be searching for somewhat nostalgic sound with slightly more modern musicianship, this is right up your alley.
