A year after The Midsummer Station released, Adam Young, AKA Owl City, decided to mix it up and release an acoustic version of his latest record. The EP features 3 acoustic songs off of The Midsummer Station, and 2 previously unreleased tracks.
The album kicks off with a simpler, more stripped down version of the radio hit "Good Time," a track that is a little more relaxed than the original, but still feels hollow, lacking the deep poetry that Adam is known for using in his lyrics. The next track is "Shooting Star (Acoustic)," a song that expresses a need to shine bright for God. The track itself is wonderfully mastered, and sounds very nice acoustic. The Midsummer Station acoustic track list ends with the fun "Gold." I was surprised to hear how this song turned out on the EP, as it feels much more deep and intimate than the original. The 2 unreleased tracks are "Hey Anna" and "I Hope You Think of Me," songs that sound a little closer to the Ocean Eyes sound but failed to connect with me on a personal level.
Overall, The Midsummer Station (Acoustic EP) is worth the few dollars paid for it, but it is not really a must-have.
