Greatest hits compilations seem to be some of the biggest 'love it or hate it' albums ever. Thus, most artists try to do their best to make it something that the fans will enjoy. Here, with Lincoln Brewster's Let the Praises Ring: The Best of, we have a collection of the greatest hits to come from this Roseville, California worship leader. And believe me, there are a lot of Lincoln Brewster hits.
The album kicks off with the new recording "Everlasting God," which, at present day is still a radio favorite. Continuing the hit trend, we hear the fun anthem "All To You," and the poppy radio hit "Love the Lord." Continuing on with the rocking "Everybody Praise the Lord," the acoustic "All I Really Want," and the duet with Jars of Clay's Dan Haseltine on "The Power of Your Love," and the cover of the CCM classic "Shout To the Lord," you can truly see the best of Lincoln here.
Now, to the logistics. There have been several artists who replaced originality with energy to great effect. At least, to the fans, and not the critics. Examples might be Pillar's Fireproof, or Kutless' self-titled debut. Although neither of those two albums are very original, they are quite likable. That may be the case here with Brewster. However, few worship leaders can claim to play the electric guitar quite like him, and it adds a very nice dimension to his songs; some even refer to him as a white, sober, and Christian version of the late, great, Jimi Hendrix.
It seems the only part of this album less likable are the two songs from Lincoln's debut, "He's All I Need" and "What Kind of Man," two songs that show that while he did not lack the guitar skill he has today back then, unfortunately, he had a singing voice that left something to be desired. Otherwise, this is a great introductory album for new fans and a great memoir for old fans- and a great reminder that Lincoln still hasn't run out of steam, and that perhaps the best is yet to come?
