The Devil Wears Prada
Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord

Artist Info: Discography
Album length: 11 tracks
Street Date: August 22, 2006

The Devil Wears Prada is a Death/Metalcore band signed to Rise Records. Released a little bit after the movie with the same name, I had to ask myself, "Why would a band take their name from a chick flick?" After hearing a lot of good talk about this band, I decided to check them out.

The first track is "The Ascent," an almost silent instrumental about a minute long. I turned up the track in attempt to hear it and was suddenly blasted with the thundering guitars from the next track, "Gauntlet of Solitude." Every track has shifting riffs and crazy breakdowns. There is some melody to give your ears a rest, however. The singing doesn't ruin anything, but instead makes the atmosphere of the record more intense. There's even a synth instrumental, "Redemption" to chill things out. It's pretty evenly paced so it's not too crazy, and not too soft, but grindcore-like vocals at points may be a turn-off to some.

The lyrics are very poetic with their words, yet, show their faith boldly and unashamedly. "Dear Lord, deliver me from this hypocrisy," he pleas in "Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over." And, unlike some bands, they say they're not just Christians in a band, but an actual Christian band.

Overall, Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord is a very intense metal album. Like I said before, The Devil Wears Prada is a death/metalcore band with a few grind influences. It's not for everyone, but for those Christians who like a little bit heavier stuff, this is the record for you!
