READER RATING:

Bethany Barnard (formerly Bethany Dillon) is no stranger to music. She last released a solo album in 2017 and has been part of The Worship Initiative. Barnard recently released a new solo album this August entitled All My Questions. Honestly, I thought this would be another run of the mill folk worship album. I was 100% wrong.

Bethany's voice is smooth, calming and lovely to listen to on each track. Just through her singing, she communicates such vulnerability and honesty that is hard to ignore. The music is expertly crafted and simplistically executed. What it lacks in originality is made up for in professionalism.

The lyrics in the songs are what makes this album one of the top albums of the year. There is an abundance of transparency, raw honesty and creativity that is sadly not heard of that much in the industry. For example, let's look at the song "Feast of Your Faithfulness." The opening lines shows where this album is heading; " Keep me, oh, God/ I know I can't keep myself / One minute, angry with You / The next, begging for Your help." It's very refreshing to see this much openness and uniqueness. We hear another example in "Who Else;" "I wanna wrestle 'til I feel blessed / Or at least until all this is remade / I know that you love me in my head / But the tightness in my chest has something to say." Few Christian artists are brave enough to talk about the hardships of life, but Bethany does so with passion.

Bethany Barnard has crafted a wonderful album about what it's like to live a life following God. It's a journey where all the questions are not answered, and there's frustration and anger. In the midst of confusion, though, there is hope in our Father in Heaven that He will take care of us, no matter what.
